Ulurulululu Katatjatatuta

In the morning there was the Mala Walk with a ranger. A very short distance, but still the walk would last two hours. We soon noticed why, the ranger had a looot to tell and told a lot of things more than once. Like he was going to tell us a story “now” that was told to Aboriginal children and half an hour later he was still saying he was going to tell us a story “now”. The ranger also had a very funny hat.
‘s Ochtends was er de Mala Walk met een ranger. Een erg korte afstand, maar toch zou de wandeling twee uur duren. We merkten al snel waarom, de ranger had veeel te vertellen en vertelde ook vrij veel meer dan eens. Zo ging hij ons “nu” een verhaaltje vertellen dat aan Aboriginal kinderen werd verteld en een half uur later was hij nog steeds aan het zeggen dat hij ons “nu” een verhaal ging vertellen. De ranger had ook een erg grappige hoed.

We arrived at some water, a couple of days ago this was completely dry (upper left). Too bad it didn’t rain some more, otherwise we could have seen a little waterfall that is very rare. It only lasts a few minutes after it has been raining. This little pond was the end of the walk, it even lasted longer than two hours. People quickly continued or went back to their car. Standing still everywhere for that long was very cold. Especially the lady on the bottom right was very cold!
We kwamen aan bij wat water, een paar dagen geleden was dit nog kurkdroog (links boven). Jammer dat het niet wat harder had geregend, anders hadden we een kleine waterval kunnen zien die heel zeldzaam is. Die duurt altijd maar tot enkele minuten na het regenen. Deze plas was het einde van de wandeling, het heeft zelfs langer dan twee uur geduurd. Mensen gingen rap verder of terug naar hun auto. Zo lang overal stilstaan was erg koud. De mevrouw rechts onder had het wel heel erg koud!

We also went back to the car. Looking back, we had better walked around the Uluru and just read all the signs. Even though the information was interesting, we now had spend two hours on a path you can do in 15 minutes. And too bad we had to check out of the campingground at 10 am, otherwise I would’ve wanted to jog around the Uluru (somewhat more than 10 km). That would have been fun!
We gingen ook terug naar onze auto. Achteraf gezien hadden we beter rond de Uluru gewandeld en gewoon even de bordjes gelezen. Ook al was de informatie interessant, nu hadden we twee uur gedaan voor een paadje dat je normaal in 15 minuten kan doen. Ook jammer dat we op de camping moesten uitchecken om 10u, anders had ik rond de Uluru (iets meer dan 10 km) willen joggen. Leek me leuk!

The Lonely planet was more enthusiastic about the walk at the Kata Tjuta. So that’s the one we were going to do in stead of the loop around the Uluru.
De Lonely Planet was enthousiaster over de wandeling bij de Kata Tjuta. Dus die gingen we doen in plaats van de lus rond de Uluru.

Looking back, we would have been able to do them both. We had finished the Valley of the Winds loop, that takes you 4 hours according to the map, in 1 hour and 45 minutes (was about 7,5 km). When we arrived at Kata Tjuta, there was this sign with a prohibition to do the loop when it’s too warm. I wish it were that warm!
Achteraf gezien hadden we beide kunnen doen. De Valley of the Winds lus die volgens de kaart 4 uur duurt, hebben we gedaan in 1 uur en 45 minuten (was zo’n 7,5 km). Toen we aankwamen bij Kata Tjuta stond er een bordje met een verbod om de lus te doen als het te warm is. Was het maar zo warm!

Luckily it wasn’t cold all day and eventually the sun came out.
Gelukkig bleef het niet de hele dag koud en kwam het zonnetje toch nog uit.

It was a nice walk.
Het was een fijne wandeling.

When we went back to the car, there was another family admiring out tire. The father even took a selfie with it. It was a funny sight. Unfortunately we thought about taking a picture of them too late. Our next stop was the Walpa Gorge walk, a little further at the Kata Tjuta.
Toen we terug naar de auto gingen, was er alweer een gezin onze band aan het bewonderen. De vader nam er zelfs een selfie mee. Het was een erg grappig zicht. We dachten er jammer genoeg te laat aan om een foto van ze te nemen. Onze volgende halte was de Walpa Gorge wandeling, een beetje verder bij de Kata Tjuta.

After that, we left for the exit of the park. One last photo with the Uluru and then we were on our way to South Australia.
Daarna vertrokken we richting de uitgang van het park. Nog een laatste foto met de Uluru en dan op weg naar Zuid-Australië.

Winter is coming.
